ISS Tracker is a free Android application that allows you to locate the International Space Station.

Application Features

ISS Tracker is a visual guide to hundreds of satellites in orbit in real time. This universal Android application will tell you when they are skipped and where they are now. You can orbit with a satellite, see what it looks like, look at the ground path from space, or watch it pass over you while on earth.

You start by identifying the satellite of interest, for example the International Space Station (ISS). There is extensive satellite information and photos. Also included is information about the next visible pass, the time and coordinates of the ascent, climax and approach. The stellar magnitude of the companion is not directly taken into account for each night pass, which for an experienced observer can help to determine the object when it begins its passage.

Orbit travel

You can observe the satellite as if you were traveling with it in orbit, and even fly around. Or from afar, watching the Earth. Or at a distance, getting a sense of its orbit relative to the Earth. The orbit is visible against the background of an astronomically correct sky. You can turn on city IDs and atmosphere to get a feel for the satellite's visibility from orbit. It's especially nice to use Android gestures to manipulate the geometry of the display to see things exactly the way you want them to.

The ISS Tracker Android app comes in a free version, which includes tracking of flares on the ISS and Iridium, as well as the ability to purchase a set of additional satellites, planets and comets.

Application interface

The application user interface is very easy to interpret. Flares, satellites, and other Iridium objects are highlighted in unique colors. For each pass, an easily interpreted "eye" icon is sized to represent the quality of the pass, the local time of the Iridium flash or the start and end of a satellite pass, and the angle above the horizon at which it will occur.

The app links to your local weather forecast, estimates the likelihood of pass quality, and displays the weather as a symbol. Even sunrise and sunset times are available immediately. If you are only interested in certain types of events, you can apply filters to the Events page, and you can enable alerts only for the types of events that you need.
